It's a Pahhhhhty!

Last night was my first time hosting my book club meeting at my house. I was nervous to say the least. I spent a lot of the weekend cleaning my house and even recruited the boy to do some last minute touch ups before all my guests arrived. I'm a freak about having a clean house. And I like people to feel comfortable in my home, so I tend to go a little overboard with the party prep.

I also went a little overboard with the food.

Cherry White Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies (homemade):

Mozzarella stuffed arancini (Trader Joe's):

Vegetable Plate (home cut, so much cheaper that way):

Pigs in a Blanket (Trader Joe's):

Unpictured were pita chips, along with all of the food my fellow book clubbers brought (a few trays of brownies, another batch of cookies, cheese and crackers, some pineapple salsa, etc.) We don't mess around. And there was also some wine, though I didn't have any, being a school night and all.

I love me a party! Our book this time was Both Ways is the Way I Want It by Maile Malloy.

It's a collection of short stories. As far as short stories go, the book was good, but short stories really are not my thing so I didn't love it. I did love the character development and the varied approach the author took in similar stories.

If you're a reader, what is your favorite genre? If you're not a reader, what is your favorite party food?

  1. I miss my book club in Phoenix. However, we would only discuss the book for about 15 minutes then get to boozing!

You are brave for hosting it at your place, I would stress myself out with worrying about if my place was clean enough or not. Chick Lit, finance and biographies are my favorite type of books.

    PS-cookies look bomb!

  2. Mmmm, food. I like murder mysteries, and trashy romance novels.

  5. Yum, everything looks delicious! I don't really have a favorite genre - I just love reading. :)

  6. That veggie platter is calling my name! Okay well so are the pigs in a blanket - they have to be my all-time favorite party food. I think I hover when those are present.

I go through phases on genres. I think I always switch it up after a book. I can't stick to one.

  10. This may be creepy, but my favorite books are Stephen King books. I have to force myself to read other stuff. Anything scary really appeals to me. Right now I'm on the third book of the Hunger Games series and those books are great!

  11. I'm a sucker for historical fiction (right now I'm reading the Tea Rose...so good!). I think I want to join a book club just so I can have yummy snacks like this :)

  12. I want the arancini! I like biographies and I like quirky romance novels, not chick lit, something with substance.

  14. I don't like short stories either. I prefer longer books that are fiction, usually something that I can relate too. I don't really like historical fiction or any sci-fi.
