Aquitaine Mini Review

You know what yesterday was right? Weigh in day.

Well, I mentioned in my post yesterday that Tuesday night I made cookie dough for the sole purpose of eating the dough, not actually making cookies. It was one of those kind of days. I did, however, go to the gym after consuming copious amounts of raw egg, sugar, butter, and flour. So hooray for me. I also attended spin the following morning and will be doing speedwork tonight. If my eating is in havoc, at least I'm still working out. At least that's what I tell myself. Now onto the results.

Starting weight: XXX
Week 1: -1.2lbs
Week 2: +0.2
Total Lost: -1.0

I gained 0.2 pounds. All things considered, that's not earth shattering. I am still down a pound. At least I feel really good with my training schedule for the half marathon. I know how much harder it is to lose weight when I'm training for a race so I don't have high expectations, but every little bit helps.

Anddddd onto the fun stuff! I met my friend Kristen for dinner at Aquitaine in Dedham last night.

I actually forgot my camera and was planning on a full review for you guys, so unfortunately I will have to revisit this restaurant to get pictures for you. In the meantime, here is a little mini review.

I realize that it's restaurant week, but I did not order off of the restaurant week menu even though it actually looked decent. For my appetizer, I ordered the Flatbread La Grecque (with crumbled feta, nicoise olives, artichokes and preserved tomato). The flatbread was pretty dry, but the flavors went very well together. For my entree I ordered the Butternut Squash Ravioli (with brown butter, sage, chanterelles & parmigiano reggiano) which was very sweet and delicious but had a touch too much butter. For dessert I ordered Warm Cider Glazed Bread Pudding (with cranberry, citrus, and creme chantilly). No words people. This bread pudding was heaven on a plate. Their whole dessert menu looked to die for. And as you know, I base the quality of a restaurant on it's dessert menu. Bravo Aquitaine!

The service was excellent and the decor and lighting were perfect. Unfortunately we got the worst table in the house (right by the door to the patio where there was a draft) but even still, it was nice for a dinner with a friend and the booths would be perfect for a romantic date. I will definitely be back.

Short post today since I was planning on doing a full restaurant review but I have an order of biznaz to discuss...it's that time again, I need guest posters! I will be in DC again from March 20th through April 1st and need a few bloggies (or non-bloggies, whoever likes to write) to fill in some of my gaps. Let me know if you're interested and I will get back to you!

Do you prefer cookie dough or cookies? Do you always lick your beaters? Or in my case, the beaters AND bowl? If you run, do you gain weight while training for long distances?

  1. If you are making dough just to eat, you can replace each egg with 1/4 cup of sour cream or greek yogurt to maintain the texture but avoid raw egg concerns. I guess it is obvious that I do this.

And I live in DC. Absolutely interested in any meetups.

  2. Both. I must eat some cookie dough while the cookies are baking.

I have been running for a short time but its pretty impossible to gain weight while running. I have had a net loss but i have lost more fat than anything.

  3. Raw cookie dough all the way. I made this pb mix the other day, 1 can cannellini beans, 2 tablespoon peanut butter, some maple agave and a bit of cinnamon and food process away. It kind of tasted like cookie dough in a weird way! Plus I didn't feel guilty eating it :)

I'm wouldn't classify myself as a runner per say!! What 1/2 are you training for?

  4. I absolutely prefer cookies - not cookie dough. But, for some reason, cake batter is my best friend - I could drink it.

  5. Ooh, I'm in DC too! enjoy your trip!

I have always gained weight during training cycles. Added activity = added appetite. I used to make cookies all the time just to eat the dough. I'm not even as interested in the final product.

  6. You go girl! I too am trying to be a running machine this week. It's kind of a double-edged sword since running should make you drop the weight, but it also makes me extremely hungry, thus eating more. Argh. I do love me some cookies and milk though :)

  7. I have done WW for 4 weeks and managed to gain and lose the same pound over and over! Are you finding it hard to stay in your point range? I always go over.

  8. @Victoria - I will be in touch

@Leah - Boston's Run to Remember in May...I have done the 5 mile portion before but not the half so I'm really excited, it's a great race!

@Lee - Yeah I was going over pretty much everyday, 29 points is just not enough, I was constantly hungry. You do get activity points though at least, but I'm still not losing like I want to :/

  9. I think I'm in the minority. I don't really like raw cookies dough; I much prefer the cookies once they are cooked.
