Max and Dylan's

Hey readers! It's finally Friday...which is just in time because I am in desperate need of some R&R after the stressful week I've had. As promised, I am living up the single life! Last night I went to Max and Dylan's downtown with my friend Emily.

It's down a side street in downtown, but I didn't have a hard time finding it because of the great big flag hanging above the door. The restaurant itself looks small from the outside but is actually three floors. The downstairs is mostly the bar, with a few tables. The second floor is all tables and the third table has a few tables and another bar. Here is the view up the stairs to the second floor, which I thought was quite lovely with skylights. It would be beautiful on a summer night.

I arrived earlier than Emily so I ordered a drink at the bar. I must say their selection of beers on tap left much to be desired. I ended up just getting a Bud Light bottle. I did not get carded...however when Em got there and ordered a drink and she didn't get carded even though she is older than me! I must have looked haggard :(

We decided to split an order of what Max and Dylan's is famous for, the mac n cheese. We went with the basic mac n cheese with toasted garlic crumbs.

In case you didn't already know, garlic is my second foodie love (behind cookies obvs) and the mac n cheese was creamy and delicious. I would've liked a stronger garlic flavor, but other than that, it was amazing.

For my entree, I ordered the Grilled Chicken sandwich with the housemade potato chips. The sandwich was just what I had expected. It was yummy but nothing really special. The chips however, were a little burnt (which I love) and were really the star of the show.

We opted out of dessert, because to be honest, the dessert menu was SERIOUSLY lacking. I base my quality of a restaurant on their dessert menu, so the fact that a sweet lover like me couldn't even find one thing remotely appealing on the menu, there has to be a problem. Hear me Max and Dylan? Add a fruit crisp or bread pudding or something.

All in all, I was pleased with Max and Dylan's but not blown away. I would go again just because it was close and convenient to my work and because the mac n cheese and chips make it worth the 15 minute walk.

What's the best mac n cheese you've ever had? Have you ever had housemade potato chips?

  1. my favorite mac and cheese has to be from the Twisted Rooster (www.twistedrooster.com). it's a new local restaurant, and while I've tried a handful of different entrees, I keep going back to their mac and cheese. ;)

hope you have a great weekend hon!

  4. I agree with your assessment of Max & Dylan's. I liked it but wasn't wowed. I love the lobster mac and cheese at Stephi's on Tremont!

  11. I love mac and cheese and will have to try theirs. I'd be classy and put their potato chips in it. Sorry their dessert menu stinks :(

  13. That place sounds like a cool place to dine at. I hate when none of the beers sound good to me and I end up going for a Bud Light instead. I go out to open my eyes to new stuff, not Bud Light like I have at home. Ugh.

There's this bbq place here called Mac's and they have an ooey gooey baked mac n cheese mess, it's fabulous. I want some now!

  14. So I haven't had mac & cheese in years, but according to the bf, Mark Bittman's "How to Cook Everything" 3 cheese mac & cheese with pancetta is TO DIE FOR. So, I recommend you try it...because I can't :)
